There is a profound beauty in watching a child connect with their roots. It’s in the way they carefully curve a pen to write an ancient script, or the confidence in their voice as they speak the language of their ancestors.
On Saturday, February 21, 2026, SD Negeri Cepaka was filled with this exact energy as we celebrated Bulan Bahasa Bali (Balinese Language Month). It was a day dedicated to a single, powerful mission: ensuring that the Balinese language and culture don’t just survive, but thrive in the hearts of the youngest generation.
Why It Starts with the Youth
Preserving a regional language is a race against time, and the best way to win that race is to start early. At SD Negeri Cepaka, this wasn’t just a school requirement, it was a celebration of identity. By creating a space where children can play, compete, and express themselves in Balinese, we are turning “tradition” into a living, breathing part of their daily lives.
The Highlights of the Day
The event was centered around three core activities, each designed to challenge and inspire the students in different ways:
- The Art of the MC (Lomba MC Bahasa Bali): Public speaking is a skill, but doing it in formal Balinese is an art. We were blown away by the poise and confidence of the students as they took the microphone. They proved that our mother tongue is a powerful tool for leadership and communication.

- Mastering the Script (Menulis Aksara Bali): There is something meditative about Aksara Bali. Watching the students focus intensely on every stroke of the script was a beautiful reminder of our history. It’s more than just writing; it’s a visual connection to Balinese literacy that has been passed down for centuries.

- The Magic of Storytelling (Cerita Bahasa Bali): Stories are how we pass down our values and wisdom. The storytelling participants brought ancient tales to life with expressions and emotions that kept the audience captivated. Through these stories, the children aren’t just learning language; they are learning the “soul” of Bali.

More Than a Competition: A Space for Pride
Beyond the trophies and certificates, the true success of Bulan Bahasa Bali at SD Negeri Cepaka was the sense of local pride. You could see it in the students’ faces, the realization that their language is something to be proud of, something “cool,” and something that belongs to them.

When children feel a sense of ownership over their culture, preservation happens naturally. These competitions provide the “learning room” where identity and confidence grow side-by-side.
A Small Step for a Big Impact
We believe that the experiences from this Saturday will leave a lasting mark. These are the small steps that lead to a big impact on the preservation of our island’s heritage.
A huge thank you to the teachers, students, and families of SD Negeri Cepaka for their incredible enthusiasm. Together, we are making sure the voice of Bali continues to ring loud and clear for generations to come.
