Canggu is famous worldwide for its iconic surf breaks, vibrant cafe culture, and stunning coastal roads. But as one of Bali’s busiest hubs, it also faces a major challenge: roadside plastic pollution.
To tackle this head-on, Coco Social Fund proudly partnered with Bless (a wonderful CSR initiative by Aura Wellness Resort) and the RB Respect, a community brotherhood led by the prominent Tabanan figure and DPRD member, I Gusti Ketut Artayasa, S.Sos. (familiarly known as Ngurah Bobby) to participate in THE SWEEP: A clean day across Bali. Guided by the powerful tagline, “WE CLEAN WHAT WE LOVE,” our joint forces, volunteers, and eco-conscious community members hit the streets of Canggu to intercept plastic waste before it could wash into our oceans or clog our waterways.
Divided by Routes, United by Purpose
To maximize our impact and cover as much ground as possible, we divided our collective forces into four energetic groups. Each team took on a strategic route, sweeping major thoroughfares and coastal roads from the beaches all the way inland:
- Team 1 (The Nelayan Route): Started at Nelayan Beach and cleared the busy pathways leading up to the Kantor Perbekel Canggu.
- Team 2 (The Batu Bolong Stretch): Charged down the iconic Batu Bolong Beach road, collecting litter all the way to the Kantor Perbekel Canggu.
- Team 3 (The Munduk Catu Hub): Moved from Munduk Catu Beach through the heart of Canggu’s bustling streets, finishing at the Coco Development Office.
- Team 4 (The Batu Mejan Trail): Covered the beautiful coastal stretch from Batu Mejan Beach, wrapping up their haul at the Coco Development Office.
The Power of Local CSR Partnerships
This collaboration with Bless by Aura Wellness Resort perfectly highlights what Corporate Social Responsibility is all about. True wellness extends far beyond our individual health, it is directly connected to the health of the environment we live in. By joining forces for THE SWEEP, we weren’t just picking up trash; we were sparking conversations with local business owners, residents, and tourists along the way, reminding everyone of the importance of keeping Bali clean.
Every Kilogram Counts!
Thanks to the incredible grit and determination of all our groups, we successfully collected 188.5 kg of plastic waste in just a single morning! Seeing the bags pile up at our final meeting points was a powerful visual reminder of how much impact a passionate community can have when they actively step up to protect what they love.
A massive thank you to the team at Bless, Aura Wellness Resort, RB Respect, and every single volunteer who traded their usual sunset routine for a pair of tongs and a trash bag to make THE SWEEP a massive success.
